Poem to Sergei Efron

A circle of wishes

black-pointed, skin-flecked spins

scurries a desert

of early morning meanders

while wide wheels crash the machine

judders a lover

laughs, then is quiet

boy

Back through the slatted lattice

street-belly hums,

a morning murmur

gathers on the corner

and newspaper stands tall

as a back-stage boy

you made it. You made it

just in time

This mid-morning you

search me

for the bridge that’s not between us

so you slant your eyes

and glance outside

and inside the door swings

the mirror smiles boy

you made it

Swing-walking on the stones

by the sea whirled and busy

in the furious sky, yawling

by the cliff, today

when you passed by,

I closed my face

and turned down low.

Boy, you made it just in time.
