Building a sense of community: Genevieve Gresset, The Lounge

Uckfield Entrepreneurs

Genevieve Gresset has built an exceptional career as a professional matchmaker and relationship coach, and is the owner of The Lounge, located at 80, New Town. With her partner, Steve, she bought the venue in August 2024, then called The Pamper Lounge, and rebranded it as The Lounge, transforming the it into a lively community space dedicated to connection, wellbeing, and local life.

Genevieve’s vision was to create more than just a café or beauty venue. She is building a boutique social lounge that nurtures authentic social relationships. The Lounge hosts an ever-evolving calendar of events for women, men, and families, including brunch clubs, afternoon teas, themed soirées, and seasonal celebrations. There are also women’s-only gatherings, Twilight sessions, and family festive events. Popular highlights include Murder Mystery nights, Twilight Breathwork and Sound Baths, and food and drink offerings with a French twist.

At the heart of the concept is The Lounge Society, a membership community with over 650 members and growing weekly. Members can access private socials, discounted bookings, and curated experiences that celebrate confidence, connection, and calm.

Genevieve is one of the UK’s leading relationship experts, appearing on Married at First Sight UK as the matchmaker and coach. Alongside her television work, Genevieve is a regular BBC Radio relationship commentator and is currently filming her new dating and coaching series, Back Two Basics, from The Lounge, exploring how people can reconnect in a world that often feels detached.

Her matchmaking skills have recently produced a first Singles Night. Well attended and lively, the evening filled a gap in Uckfield by providing safe social opportunities to encourage people to leave their houses and meet others, talk, enjoy themselves, and find new friends. The initiative, which will be repeated, is also therapeutic, encouraging people to have more self-confidence.

Genevieve began her career in journalism, working with the Dimbleby brothers at the Richmond and Twickenham Times, before moving into coaching and matchmaking. Genevieve remains passionate about bringing people together through community, coaching, and conversation. The sense of community is the golden thread that defines and explains her commitment.

“Everything I do,” she says, “is about helping people to feel stronger, happier, and more connected because when we come together, our life truly begins.”
